‎La Liga: Real Madrid close gap as leaders Barcelona drop points at Real Betis

Real Madrid closed the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona as they defeated Girona 3-0 in Saturday’s action, Afrosport reports.

‎At the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, Jude Bellingham scored in the 36th minute to put Los Blancos ahead before providing an assist for Arda Guler with a fine through ball to double the lead 10 minutes after the break.

Kylian Mbappe thereafter wrapped up the win for Carlo Ancelotti’s men in the 62nd minute as he scored from a tight angle to further close the gap on league leaders Barcelona to just two points.

‎In a pulsating encounter at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, La Liga table-topers Barcelona dropped two points in a 2-2 away draw to Real Betis.

Robert Lewandowski had put Barca ahead just before the break as the Poland international scored his 16th La Liga goal of the season.

However, drama ensued in the 66th minute as Barcelona’s Coach, Hansi Flick, was sent off for protesting a penalty decision after VAR awarded a spot kick to Betis following Frenkie de Jong’s foul on Vitor Roque. Giovani Lo Celso then leveled for Los Verdiblancos from the spot kick in the 68th minute.

‎Substitute Ferran Torres struck what seemed like the winner for the Catalan giant eight minutes from time before Assane Diao’s late intervention snatched a late draw for the hosts.

‎Elsewhere, Sandro Ramirez’s stunning second-half strike ensured Las Palmas’ third successive victory in all competitions as they beat Real Valladolid 2-1 in the early La Liga action, while an early Pathe Ciss header helped Rayo Vallecano to a 1-0 win over Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.
