Kwara Falcons unfazed by BAL group opponents

Nigeria’s Flagbearer at Africa Largest Club Basketball showpiece – Basketball Africa League (BAL), Kwara Falcons are ready to challenge for supremacy in the Sahara Conference in Dakar.

Kwara Falcons coach, Baba Jubril said his team won’t be intimidated by the quality of their opponents in Dakar and he believes the underdog tag might play an advantage for them when they take to the court.

The Falcons have been pitched against US Monastir of Tunisia, Abidjan Basketball Club of the Ivory Coast, AS Douanes of Senegal, Stade Malien of Mali and R.E.G of Rwanda.

“Every team ambition is to go to the championship and do well, of all the teams competing, we seems to be among the minors which for me is an advantage because oppositions wouldn’t have a full clue of what to expect from us and having played in that region during my playing days, I fully know what to expect from majority of the oppositions,” Jubril said in a statement.

US Monastir are reigning BAL champions while Abidjan Basketball Club of the Ivory Coast will make their second appearance in the competition with the ambition of surpassing the quarter-final stage.

The Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Basketball, advanced to the last-eight of the 2022 BAL edition and reclaim the Rwanda Basketball League title last year. Stade Malien will also be making their debut in the continental championship after dominating the qualifying round in Niamey, Niger.

Currently among the lowest-ranked side in BAL, Kwara Falcons qualified for the tournament last November, after beating Customs in the finals of the Nigeria Basketball Premier League final eight in Lagos.
