Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane equalled Jimmy Greaves’ scoring record with his strike in Tottenham’s 1-0 Premier League win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The 29-year-old’s strike in the first-half was his 16th league goal of the season, the 199th of his Premier League career, and the 266th of his Tottenham career, drawing him level with the late Three Lions striker.
He equalled the record with a brilliant shot after receiving the ball from teammate Son Heung Min, he drilled past Tim Ream on the edge of the opposition box before hitting an impressive shot into the bottom right corner.
Kane, who is England’s all-time leading scorer, could have added a second and surpassed Greaves’ record, but Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno saved his close-range header.
Kane’s goal was his 48th strike in a London derby in the Premier League, the most by any player in the league’s history.
After the win and the record-equaling goal, the England captain revealed that a team meeting helped him and his teammates get back on track.
“We are a little bit behind where we want to be but tonight was important,” he told BBC
“We had a good talk amongst ourselves and the manager in the week, just to talk amongst ourselves, to get back to what we are good at, clean sheets, being compact and hard to break down. Then we know we will have a chance to score and have players who can do that.
“It was a really important win for us, especially after the last couple of games, to get back to winning ways,” Kane added.
The win was Spurs’ second in six Premier League games and moved them to within three points of Manchester United in fourth place.
