Jose Poseiro nominated for 2024 IFFHS men’s best coach award

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is among the nominees for the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Men’s World Best National Coach award for 2024, Afrosport reports.

The Portuguese, who was left out of the 2024 CAF Coach of the Year shortlist, earned the IFFHS nomination having  led the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Peseiro, who earned a nomination for the award for the first time, was in the dugout when Nigeria lost 2-1 to host nation Ivory Coast in final.

The 63-year-old Portuguese left his role as Super Eagles head coach following the expiration of his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in February.

Spain’s Luis de la Fuente, Didier Deschamps of France and Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni are among the 20 other coaches nominated for the prestigious award.

Scaloni won the award in 2023 ahead of finalists Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola after leading Argentina’s Albiceleste to triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Other nominees include: Gareth Southgate, Ronald Koeman, Julian Nagelsmann, Vincenzo Montella, Murat Yakin, Willy Sagnol, Néstor Lorenzo, Marcelo Bielsa, Fernando Batista, Jesse Marsch, Thomas Christiansen, Emerse Faé, Hugo Broos, Bartolomé “Tintín” Márquez, Hussein Ammouta, and Darren Bazeley.
