Jakob Ingebrigtsen shatters two indoor world records in France

Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen on Thursday shattered two indoor world records at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in France, Afrosport reports.

Ingebrigtsen, who has a knack for breaking records, smashed the indoor world records for both mile and 1500m races.

The 24-year-old clocked a time of 3:45.14 to win the mile at the Arena Stade Couvert in Lievin. The time broke record of 3:46.63 set by American Yared Nuguse five days prior at the Millrose Games in New York.

Ingebrigtsen, meanwhile, now solely holds both the indoor and outdoor world records in the men’s mile, having clocked a time of 3:43.73 in the latter.

The reigning Olympic 5,000m champion took his dominance to another level, breaking the indoor 1500m record he set three years ago in the same Arena after clocking 3:29.63.

“It feels amazing. This is what happens in Lievin,” Ingebrigtsen said. “I’m a very happy man. You have to be focused for the whole race. It’s tough, but it’s worth it.”

The Norwegian also holds the fastest outdoor times in the 2000m (4:43.13) and 3000m (7:17.55) events.
