Jacob Murphy scores twice as Newcastle move above Man City

Jacob Murphy was on target twice as Newcastle United defeated Leicester City 3-0 in the Premier League on Monday night to move above Manchester City in the table, Afrosport reports.

The Citizens played out a goalless draw with fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday giving the Magpies opportunity to move up to fifth which they did.

Jacob Murphy got things off at the King Power Stadium early with his brace coming in the second and 11th minute.

It took the 30-year-old England winger of Nigerian heritage to seven goals and nine assists in the league this season, matching his best league career goal involvement of 16 (nine goals, seven assists) during the 2016-17 season with Norwich City in the Championship.

Former Leicester winger Harvey Barnes completed the scoring in the 34th minute to hand Newcastle their third league win in a row and fourth in all competitions which includes their 2-1 triumph over Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.

The victory sees them one point clear of Man City on the table and level on 53 points with fourth-placed Chelsea.

Eddie Howe’s men will next host Manchester United at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
