Ivan Juric leaves Southampton after Premier League relegation

Ivan Juric has left his role as Southampton head coach after the club’s Premier League’s relegation was confirmed following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur, Afrosport reports.

With seven games left to play, the Saints are the earliest team to ever be relegated from England’s top-flight.

Simon Rusk will take charge of the first team until the end of the season along with former player Adam Lallana.

He briefly took charge when Russell Martin left St. Mary’s earlier in the season before the arrival of Juric

The Croatian will now depart the South Coast along with his backroom staff after just 108 days in charge.

“We can confirm that we have today reached an agreement with our Men’s First Team Manager, Ivan Juric, to end his spell at the club,” read a statement on the club website.

“Ivan came to Southampton at a tough time and was tasked with trying to improve a squad in a difficult situation. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen performances progress the way we had hoped, but we would like to thank Ivan and his staff for their honesty and hard work as they fought against the odds to try and keep us up.

“With relegation to the Championship now confirmed, we believe it is important to give fans, players and staff some clarity on the future as we head into a very important summer.

“The process of finding a new manager to lead us as we look to secure an immediate return to the Premier League has now begun and is being led by Group Technical Director Johannes Spors.”

Juric was initially given an 18-month contract with a break clause that was going to be reviewed at the end of the season.

He oversaw 14 Premier League matches, losing 12 of them, winning one and drawing the other.

Southampton were nine points shy of safety when the 49-year-old arrived last November but leaves them 22 points adrift of 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.
