Italian Referee Fabio Maresca has been suspended from UEFA after levelling a threat against a player in the Kuwait Premier League match between Kuwait SC and Al-Arabi last Friday, Afrosport reports.
On Tuesday, Al Arabi star, Khaled Al Murshed lodged a complaint against the referee stating that Maresca said: “See you next time, I’ll kill you.” Though another player pointed out that the official simply said: “see you next time” with no further remark. Board member of Al Arabi, Adnan Abdul, however confirmed that Maresca said he would kill the player.
Maresca was replaced by fellow Italian Daniele Doveri as the fourth official in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash between PSV and Sporting Lisbon, which ended 1-1.
The Italian Referees’ Association (AIA), has reportedly suspended Maresca from officiating in Serie A matches for a month.
Back in 2021, Maresca also made headlines when he sent then-Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte to the stands during a Serie A match against Udinese.
Earlier that season, Maresca, also failed to award a penalty to Conte’s Inter following a challenge on Ivan Perisic during a 2-2 draw with Parma.
