Newcastle boss Eddie Howe denies contact with FA over England job

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe says he did not negotiate with the Football Association over England managerial position, Afrosport reports.

The FA on Wednesday appointed former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel as new head coach of the Three Lions following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after their Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

Meanwhile, the FA chief xxecutive Mark Bullingham said that the association has previously “interviewed approximately 10 people” which includes some “English candidates”.

However, Howe denied being approached or interviewed for the England job, and when asked on Friday to confirm whether the reports were true, he said: “No, I wasn’t. There was no contact from the FA”.

Furthermore, Howe also confirmed that he is not interested in a move as he is “100% focused” on the Newcastle job.

“Absolutely not. England have to do what is right for them,” the Magpies coach stated. “Only they will know the processes they’ve gone through and the decisions that they’ve made, and I’m certainly not the type of person that’s going to analyse that.

“For me, it’s about Newcastle, it’s about trying to win games and it’s hard enough to do that if you’re 100 per cent focused, and I have always remained that way to my work.”

Howe and his Newcastle side, who currently sits seventh in the Premier League standings with 12 points, will welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to the St. James Park in a teatime fixture on Saturday, October 19, as the European leagues return after the international break.
