Assane Diao has revealed that Como manager Cesc Fabregas influenced his decision to join the newly promoted Serie A club, Afrosport reports.
The 19-year-old Spaniard of Senegalese heritage joined from Real Betis for a fee worth €12 million and has hit the ground running at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia with five goals in eight league games, including the winner in a 2-1 win over title contenders Napoli.
Assane Diao stated that he was also able to adapt quickly due to the support from his Como teammates and coaching staff.
“I didn’t expect to start this well,” Diao said in an interview published on Como’s official channels he said per Tutto Mercato.
“Of course, it’s what I wanted and hoped for, but I was aware that I was stepping into a tough league and that the first steps would be difficult. However, thanks to my teammates and the coaching staff, I was able to adapt very quickly.
“Why Como? I spoke with Fabregas, who explained the project, the vision, and what he had in mind for me and for the proper development of the team.
“Speaking directly with him was very important; after that conversation, I had no more doubts and chose Como.
“But I think that anyone who has had the chance to watch a match has been impressed by the style of play, and that in itself generates a lot of interest.”

Como are 13th on the Serie A table, seven points clear of the relegation zone and will be in the Italian capital to take on AS Roma on Sunday.
