Hodgson reserves applause for Olise after Crystal Palace bashing of Leeds

Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson has described Michael Olise as an “enormous talent” after providing three assists in their 5-1 Premier League victory at Leeds United on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Anglo-Nigerian was the star of the show as he was involved in goals scored by Ghana forward Jordan Ayew, who netted a brace, as well as for Anglo-Nigerian Eberechi Eze and French forward Odsonne Edouard.

Olise’s efforts on Saturday made him the youngest player to provide three assists from open play in Premier League history.

He has also recorded 12 assists since the start of last season which is the most for any player aged 21 or younger after Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka with 17 assists.

Hodgson believes Olise has a great career ahead of him and wishes to see him remain at Selhurst Park.

“In the second-half he [Olise] was spot on with everything,” Hodgson said on the club website. “In the first-half we didn’t get enough out of him, and we couldn’t bring him into the game as much as we wanted.

“In the first-half he was a figure on the right but he wasn’t creating chances or showing aggression in his play. In the second-half he got it all right in both defence and attack and he showed what a wonderful player he is.

“I have seen him for 10 days less than I have seen the others. What I make of him is that I think he is an enormous talent – he has got a great possibility to have a wonderful career and a wonderful future. We can only hope we at Crystal Palace can give him that platform.”

Sunday’s result sees Palace move above Wolverhampton Wanderers to 12th place, six points away from the relegation zone.

Their next fixture is a trip to bottom-placed Southampton next weekend.
