Lewis Hamilton says he is “blown away” by his team’s Extreme E championship victory over the team of his former Mercedes and Formula 1 teammate Nico Rosberg.
Rosberg’s team beat Hamilton’s team to the title in last year’s inaugural championship. Hamilton’s X44 team of Cristina Gutierrez and nine-time World Rally Championship champion Sebastien Loeb however got the better of Rosberg X Racing pairing of Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky in the season-ending Energy X-Prix in Punta del Este, Uruguay on Sunday.
Hamilton was very excited in what he described as a difficult day on the Uruguayan south coast.
“I am so blown away by this comeback after such a difficult day yesterday. The team rebuilding, staying positing and coming out fighting. Wow, I’m so proud of the team and these two amazing drivers.” Hamilton said in a post on his Instagram Stories.
Hamilton and Rosberg were teammates with Mercedes between 2013 and 2016. Together, both men won four drivers championships in what was a dominant period for Mercedes. Their partnership was often a fiery one which led to Rosberg retiring from the sport after he won his first and only world championship in 2016 at the age of 31.
