Tuesday night was all about Erling Haaland as Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
It was a game that proved to be a tough test for the Citizens in their quest to lift European club football’s biggest trophy, however, Pep Guardiola had no problems against his former German employers with Rodri, Bernando Silva and Haaland getting the job done.
It was a special night for Haaland who has been a goalscoring machine this season since arriving from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
The 22-year-old Norwegian forward’s goal was his 45th of the season, making him the Premier League player with the most goals in all competitions since the top-flight’s formation in 1992.
The previous record was 44 goals scored by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and former Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy during the 2017-18 and 2002-03 seasons respectively. The duo achieved it in 52 games, but Haaland has now broken the record in 39 games, underlining his incredible prowess in front of goal.

Haaland is currently on 30 Premier League goals and he is three goals shy of surpassing Salah’s tally of 32 goals from the 2017-18 campaign which is the most by a player in the top-flight in the 20-team format.
The Leeds-born player could have an opportunity to edge closer or surpass it when Man City host struggling Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
