Ghana’s Kudus inspires Ajax to victory in Eredivisie

Mohammed Kudus scored a goal and provided an assist as Ajax Amsterdam recorded a 4-2 away win over SC Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday.

De Godenzonen came into the tie on the back of a 1-0 win over NEC Nijmegen, a game  in which Kudus was the scorer. The Ghana international was at it once again at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, giving Ajax the lead in the 10th minute with a deftly-executed finish.

The 22-year-old then turned provider for Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez six minutes later before ex-Tottenham Hotspur forward Steven Bergwijn made it 3-0 to the 36-time Dutch champions in the 19th minute.

Pelle van Amersfoort pulled one back for Heerenveen three minutes to the halftime break but Kenneth Taylor increased Ajax’s lead seven minutes after the restart before Sydney van Hooijdonk halved the deficit for the home team with 11 minutes left on the clock.

Kudus – who won the Man of the Match award – has now taken his tally in the Eredivisie to 11 goals and two assists this season, while recording 18 goals in all competitions and five assists overall.

Ajax remain three points behind league leaders and rivals Feyenoord – whom they will tackle next at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
