Ghana’s Abdul Samed gets heavy sanction in Ligue 1

Ghana midfielder Salis Abdul Samed will miss Lens’ next three matches after receiving a straight red card in their Ligue 1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last Saturday.

Abdul Samed was sent off 19 minutes into Lens’ 3-1 defeat to the league leaders after a reckless challenge on Morocco’s right-back Achraf Hakimi.

Following a review by the Disciplinary Committee of the LFP on Wednesday, the 23-year-old will now serve a three-game ban instead of two.

Abdul Samed will miss Lens’ upcoming games against Monaco, Toulouse and Marseille and will return to action on May 13 for their Ligue 1 fixture against Reims.

The Ghana international joined Lens from Clermont last summer and he has played in 29 league games so far this season with a goal to his name, with the Blood and Gold sitting third in Ligue 1 table with a point adrift from automatic UEFA Champions League qualification.

He was part of the Black Stars squad to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and he played in all their games before their group stage exit.
