Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has drawn the curtain on his illustrious football career.
Gyan confirmed his retirement during the 30th Afreximbank Annual Meeting in Accra during a panel session with former Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old last played for Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League during the 2020-21 season and he had hoped to play for the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Gyan started his professional career at home-based club Liberty Professionals in 2003 before traveling to Italy to join Udinese.
He also played in the Premier League, French Ligue 1, Chinese Super League, United Arab Emirates Pro League, Turkish Super Lig and Indian Super League.
The former Sunderland and Rennes striker played at three FIFA World Cups, seven Africa Cup of Nations before retiring from international football in May 2019.
He remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals.
