Otto Addo is set to quit his role as Ghana’s head coach after their elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Black Stars’ ambition of advancing from the group stage was dashed following their 2-0 loss to Uruguay in their final Group H fixture on Friday.
Addo who is a talent coach in German Bundesliga club, Borussia Dortmund took up the interim Black Stars role in February after Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac was sacked.
He began his role at Dortmund in 2019 and he is set to return to the European club.
The 47-year-old guided Ghana to qualifying for the World Cup as they defeated West African neighbours, Nigeria in the final play-off round.
“I said it before when I started as assistant coach last year that it was clear I would stop after the World Cup,” Addo said after Friday’s loss.
“At the moment, me and my family see our future in Germany and I like my role at Dortmund and we are very happy there.
“From the day I started, I said if we qualified I would resign after the World Cup, even if we are champions.”
Born in the German city of Hamburg to Ghanaian parents, Addo guided the Black Stars to score five goals in Qatar and they conceded seven goals with a win and two losses in three group games.
