German-Nigerian Schade scores maiden Premier League goal for Brentford

Kevin Schade scored his first goal in the colours of Brentford following Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Fulham at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The 21-year-old German-Nigerian is the record signing for the Bees having secured a him for a club-record £22 million permanent transfer from Bundesliga side Freiburg.

Schade was on loan with Brentford last season making 18 appearances. He however failed to score in any of them and provided just one assist in a 3-2 win over Fulham on March 6. The moment finally came in the London derby against the Eagles, giving Thomas Frank’s side the lead in the 18th minute with a sensational strike.

Brentford held on to the lead until the 76th minute when Ghana forward Jordan Ayew fed Danish centre-back Joachim Andersen to equalise from close range.

Shade was born to a Nigerian father and German mother and is eligible to play for either the Super Eagles or Die Mannschaft. He has two caps for the latter but they came in international friendlies, leaving the door for a switch to Nigeria.

Saturday’s result continues Brentford’s unbeaten start to the season and unbeaten run in three consecutive London derbies, first drawing 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season before seeing off Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage last weekend.
