The former Greece international was discovered in his swimming pool, but no further details surrounding the circumstances of his death have been released.

Baldock had moved to Panathinaikos in the Greek Super League in the summer of 2024 after a successful seven-year tenure at Sheffield United, where he was instrumental in the club’s promotion to both the Championship and the Premier League.

The Greek Super League issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over his passing and extended condolences to his family and loved ones.

“The entire Super League football family expresses its deep sorrow for the untimely loss of Panathinaikos and our National Team footballer, George Baldock, and extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Beginning his senior career with MK Dons, Baldock joined Sheffield in 2017. He was quickly drawn to the fans during his time at Bramall Lane, making 219 appearances, scoring six goals, and providing 16 assists.

Notably, he played a significant role in the Blades’ remarkable ninth-place finish in the Premier League during the 2020 season.

A 12-time international for Greece, Baldock had made four appearances for Panathinaikos this season but was not selected for the national team’s Nations League match against England scheduled for Thursday at Wembley.
