Calvin Bassey’s full Premier League debut ended on a sour note after receiving a red card in Fulham’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Saturday.
The Nigeria international who joined the Cottagers from Ajax this summer, was handed his first start in the English top-flight to pair Issa Diop at the heart of Fulham’s defence.
A week ago, the 23-year-old came off to bench to make his Premier League debut by playing the final 23 minutes od Fulham’s 3-0 loss to Brentford.
Bassey received his first yellow card in the 50th minute for time-wasting and he was shown a second yellow card that led to his expulsion in the 83rd minute for pushing down Eddie Nketiah.
The Super Eagles defender will now miss Fulham’s next domestic match which is a League Cup game against Tottenham Hotspur on August 29.
Following Bassey’s expulsion, Marcos Silva’s rallied to share the spoils at the Emirates Stadium as Joao Palhinha’s late strike helped them to a 2-2 draw.
Fulham now have four points after three matches in the 2023-24 Premier League season.
