Ons Jabeur has been knocked out of the French Open after losing 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 1-6 to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
The Tunisian star and seventh seed made her first appearance in the last eight of Rolland Garros after dispatching Bernarda Pera 6-3, 6-1 in the fourth round.
The first set of the quarter-final tie started with Haddad Maia losing her serve in the second game to give Jabeur a 2-0 advantage. The Brazilian however broke back immediately in the third game before Jabeur did likewise in the fourth game.
Haddad Maia broke Jabeur in the seventh game to reduce the deficit to 4-3 but Jabeur broke her back in the eighth game and served out the set to win 6-3.
The second set saw both players hold each other serves although Haddad Maia had set point in the 12th game, Jabeur saved it to level things at 6-6. The tie-break went Haddad Maia’s way as she won it 7-5 with Jabeur losing serve on three occasions.

The third and final set was all about Haddad Maia as she broke Jabeur in the first and third games to race to a 3-0 lead. Though the Tunisian broke back in the fourth, that was all she could do as Haddad Maia broke back in the fifth and seventh games to see out the set 6-1.
Haddad Maia became the first Brazilian woman in the open era to reach the French Open semi-finals and will get to face either world number one Iga Swiatek who defeated American teenager Coco Gauf 6-4, 6-2 in Wednesday’s other quarter-final.
