France star Mbappe breaks silence after World Cup heartbreak

Kylian Mbappe has promised France will return and have another crack at winning the World Cup.

Les Bleus lost on penalties to Argentina in Sunday’s final after staging an incredible comeback.

The 2018 world champions were two goals down at half-time but managed to claw their way back thanks to Mbappe the who netted a late brace in the space of one minute.

Argentina took a 3-2 lead in extra time courtesy of Lionel Messi but Mbappe completed his hat-trick to tie the game at 3-3. France ultimately lost 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

The defeat was a bitter bill to swallow for Mbappe who finished as the top scorer in Qatar. He is however looking forward to another opportunity to add to the World Cup trophy he won four years ago in Russia.

“We’ll be back,” Mbappe said in an Instagram post.

Aside finishing winning the Golden Boot, Mbappe is the first player to score a World Cup final hat-trick since 1966.

He is the first player to score seven or more goals at a single World Cup event since Ronaldo at the 2002 edition in South Korea/Japan.

Mbappe has the most goals by any player in a World Cup final (4).

His 12 goals from just two World Cup tournaments puts him sixth in the all-time scorer’s list at the mundial, level with Brazil legend Pele, and four behind retired Germany striker Miroslav Klose.
