Former Super Eagles star Onazi moves to Bahrain

Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has sealed a move to Bahraini Premier League club East Riffa.

The 30-year-old, who recently trained with Nigerian Premier Football League side Remo Stars, will move to Western Asia after parting ways with Italian side Casertana.

Onazi joined the Little Falcons in August 2022, returning to Italy six years after leaving Serie A powerhouse Lazio. However, he only managed six games for the Serie D team in a short and disappointing campaign.

The Bahraini club [East Riffa] revealed the news of the Nigerian’s signing alongside two other players in an announcement on their official Instagram channel.

The former Trabzonspor player made his senior national team debut in an African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Liberia before scoring his first goal in his next game, a friendly match against Venezuela.

Onazi moves to East Riffa with a lot of experience, and the club will be hoping to use that to their advantage in a bid to get back to winning ways.

East Riffa are currently 10th in the Bahraini top flight after nine games, with just one win in their last ten games in all competitions.

When the league resumes on January 22, they will play the third-placed team and defending champions Al Riffa.
