Former Real Madrid and Netherlands coach Leo Beenhakker has passed away at the age of 82, the La Liga club announced on Thursday.
Beenhakker coached Madrid between 1986 and 1989 and was in charge again in 1992. He won six trophies with Los Blancos, including three successive La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and two Supercopa de Espana trophies.
“Real Madrid C. F., its president and board of directors, are deeply saddened by the death of Leo Beenhakker, the legendary Real Madrid coach who led the Whites between 1986 and 1989, and in 1992,” the club said in a statement.
“Real Madrid would like to express their condolences and affection to his family, clubs, and loved ones.”

The Dutchman also coached clubs like Ajax, Feyenoord, Real Zaragoza, Club America, and Grasshoppers, among many others. He led Ajax to Eredivisie triumphs in the 1979-80 and 1989-90 seasons before guiding Feyenoord to the league title in the 1998-90 campaign.
Beenhakker was also popular on the national team scene, managing the likes of the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Poland.
