Former Chelsea defender Koulibaly gives transfer advice to Osimhen

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has advised Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to make his transfer decision by himself, without listening to anyone.

The African stars played together for Napoli in the Serie A before Koulibaly left for Chelsea last summer while the Nigeria striker stayed in Luciano Spalletti’s team to help them lift their first league title since 1990.

Osimhen has been the subject of transfer speculations this summer following his scintillating scoring form in the 2022-23 Italian top-flight campaign that earned him the Golden Boot with 26 goals.

With his five-year contract at Napoli set to expire in June 2025, the Nigeria international is reportedly attracting interest from Premier League clubs and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Koulibaly, who left Chelsea after a season for Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal this week, has urged Osimhen to make a decision he won’t regret in the future.

“We speak once in a while and if he needs, he’ll call me,” Koulibaly told Corriere dello Sport.

“Victor is an important player, among the best in the world. Gennaro Gattuso helped him, Luciano Spalletti was a turning point for him and now he needs nobody.

“He must feel free to choose without listening to anyone else. That’s the only way not to have regrets.”

Osimhen is currently enjoying his off-season holiday in Nigeria after helping the Super Eagles qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with his brace in the 3-2 victory against Sierra Leone on June 18.
