Former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka has been handed a wildcard entry into the men’s singles draw at Roland Garros, Afrosport reports.
Wawrinka rallied to defeat Novak Djokovic in four sets to win the French Open in 2015, claiming the second of his three Grand Slam titles.
The 40-year-old Swiss tennis star, who currently sits 132nd in the ATP rankings, reached round two at Roland Garros last year.
He, however, lost to Russia’s Pavel Kotov and has failed to advance to the second round of a Grand Slam tournament since the Australian Open five years ago.
Meanwhile, 38-year-old Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who will retire after the tournament, also received a wild card for the main draw.
The 2025 French Open will begin at Roland Garros on Sunday, 25 May, and end on Sunday, 8 June.
