Flying Eagles to face Cote d’Ivoire in international friendlies in Abidjan

2023 African Games: Flying Eagles start on losing note against Uganda

Nigeria’s under-20 men’s team, the Flying Eagles, will take on Cote d’Ivoire in a double-header friendly this month, Afrosport reports.

The Flying Eagles, with the hopes of preparing for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), will play their Ivorian counterpart in the first match on Wednesday, 26 February, with the second leg set for two days later.

The two matches will be played in Abidjan, the capital of Cote d’Ivoire, and the Flying Eagles are expected to depart Nigeria on Monday.

Aliyu Zubairu’s side was previously supposed to face Egypt in a double-header friendly, but the encounter was cancelled after both countries were drawn in the same group for the U-20 AFCON.

Nigeria, seven-time African champions, will continue preparation for the tournament, which is set to take place from 26 April to 18 May in Côte d’Ivoire.

The four semi-finalists in the tournament will qualify to represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals in Chile.
