Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi will miss the start of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States as he remains in Tehran due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, Afrosport reports.
Taremi has been in Iran for the past week having been on international duty with the national team, scoring in a 3-0 victory over North Korea in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 32-year-old was unable to get a flight to join his Inter team-mates in Los Angeles due to the ongoing confrontation between Iran and Israel, and has remained in his home country.
Taremi made 43 competitive appearances for Inter last season, mostly off the bench and scored three goals and provided nine assists.
The Nerazzurri will start their Club World Cup campaign against Mexican side Monterrey on Tuesday in Pasadena, making it the first game in charge for new head coach Cristian Chivu.
The former Romanian player succeeded Simone Inzaghi, who departed for Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal after the heavy 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final in Munich.
