FIFACWC: First Alexander-Arnold assist sends Real Madrid into quarter-finals

Trent Alexander-Arnold registered his first assist in a Real Madrid shirt as the Spanish giants defeated Juventus 1-0 to move into FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals, Afrosport reports.

The 26-year-old joined Los Blancos from Liverpool ahead of the competition and has featured in every game so far.

He has also slotted into new manager Xabi Alonso’s system of playing him at right wing-back and provided the decisive assist against Juve at Hard Rock Stadium when he floated in a trademark cross for Gonzalo Garcia to head home in the 54th minute.

It was the third goal in the tournament for the 21-year-old Madrid academy graduate after netting against Al Hilal and Salzburg in the group stage and also providing an assist for Ader Guler against Pachuca.

Juventus failed to threaten Los Blancos all game, with the Spanish giants asserting their control as they become more accustomed to Alonso’s coaching methods.

They will get to face either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey in the last eight at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday.
