FIFACWC: Chelsea’s Jackson given two-game ban for red card

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been handed a two-match ban for his red card in their 3-1 defeat to Flamengo in the Club World Cup on Friday, Afrosport reports.

Jackson was on the field for just four minutes before being sent off for a dangerous challenge on Flamengo defender Lucas Ayrton.

The 24-year-old Senegalese was served an initial one-match ban that rules him out of Chelsea’s final group game against Tunisian side ES Tunis on Tuesday.

However, following a review of the incident by a FIFA disciplinary committee, Jackson’s ban has been extended, with the body citing serious foul play as its reason.

The Senegal international took to social media after the game to apologise to his Chelsea teammates and fans, having received his second red card in four competitive matches for Enzo Maresca’s side.

He will now miss Chelsea’s match in the round of 16 if they progress from the group, as the ruling of the disciplinary committee cannot be appealed.

The Blues need to avoid defeat against ES Tunis at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to reach the last 16.
