The world football governing body, FIFA has paid a glowing tribute to former Nigeria goalscoring machine, Rashidi Yekini on the remembrance of his death.
Yekini who etched his name in history as scorer of Nigeria’s first ever goal at the FIFA World Cup, died on May 4, 2012 at the age of 48.

He scored the opening goal in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory against Bulgaria followed by his iconic celebration as he gripped the back of the net with both hands.
The former Vitoria Setubal striker played a huge role in the Super Eagles’ success at the 1994 World Cup where they reached the round of 16 stage with Italy eliminating them.
Yekini was also Nigeria’s top scorer at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia as his tally of five goals powered the West Africans to lift their second continental title.
