Akwa United head coach Kennedy Boboye has set a target of winning the President Federation Cup, two decades after he lifted it as a player, Afrosport reports.
Boboye won on the books of now-defunct Dolphins FC when the Port Harcourt side defeated Enugu Rangers 1-0 in the 2004 final.
The former Sunshine Stars boss will be in the dugout when Akwa United take on Kebbi United in round of 64 in Abuja on Wednesday.
Boboye described the Federation Cup as unpredictable due its tendency to produce upsets, and for that reason would not underestimate their Nigeria National League (NNL) opponents.
“The FA Cup is a tricky competition because it is full of surprises,” he told the club media. “This is a fresh opportunity for us and a great avenue to secure continental football next season. We cannot afford to underrate any team; we must give our best in every match to go all the way.
“I won the FA Cup as a player with Dolphins, but I haven’t won it as a coach. I would love to achieve that this year with Akwa United.”
He added: “The FA Cup is not new to Akwa United, having won it twice [2015 and 2017]. Winning it for the third time in ten years would be a great honor for us and our fans.”
Champions keep playing until they get it right.

The Promise Keepers were ironically knocked out of last year’s Federation Cup to Kebbi United in the Round of 32.
