Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has set sights on his team winning the FA Cup again after their success in 2021.
The Foxes defeated Chelsea by a lone goal two years ago at Wembley to hand Rodgers his first title in England and Leicester’s first FA Cup triumph after four runner-up finishes in 1949, 1961, 1963 and 1969. It was also the East Midlands outfit’s second title under the Srivaddhanaprabha ownership after the unprecedented Premier League triumph in 2016.
Leicester prepare to take on Blackburn Rovers in the FA fifth round on Tuesday and Rodgers believes his team – that have often struggled this season in the Premier League – have what it takes to win the world’s oldest knockout competition.
“We’ve been on this journey before, and it led us to winning it,” the Northern Irishman said on the club website. “We have that feeling and we know what that feeling is like. But in order to do that, you have to get there.
“Of course, it’s right up there to win the trophy for the first time in the Club’s history. It was a great honour and privilege to be able to do that. The day itself was absolutely amazing. The feeling that it gave everyone, in what was a difficult period. It was the first time fans were coming back into stadiums after the pandemic.
“To beat such a top-class team in Chelsea and deliver the cup…. we had tough series of games right the way through. It’s a day that will always provide us all with a special bond. I hope that we can do it again in the future as well.
“Once you’ve won titles and trophies, it then allows you to have a canvas leading into games. And especially if some players have won, they know what it takes. That experience is very important, otherwise the emotions can be difficult. We have enough players in the squad now who have good experience of winning titles and that helps.”
