FA Cup: Iheanacho sends Leicester City through to fifth round

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was the hero in Leicester City’s 1-0 win over League Two side Walsall in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The 26-year-old found the back of the net in the second half, five minutes after replacing Zambian forward Patson Daka.

His left-footed strike from outside the box deflected off a Walsall defender, beating goalkeeper Owen Evans before dipping just under the crossbar.

The Foxes had seven shots on target, and they squandered a lot of chances in a game they totally dominated.

Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans had the biggest chance of the game to put them ahead two minutes after the second half began, but he failed to convert his spotkick, hitting the bottom left post after Daka was brought down in the box.

He almost atoned for his mistake nine minutes later with a 25-yard screamer heading for the top corner, but Evans was on hand to palm it away.

Iheanacho’s goal was his third in all competitions and his second in the FA Cup this season after scoring the lone goal in their third round win overl Gillingham FC.

The former Manchester City forward has found it tough to hold down a starting spot in Brendan Rodgers’ team this season, with just three starts in 20 apperances in all competitions.

However, the Nigerian loves playing in the prestigious FA Cup, scoring seven goals in his last seven games in the competition.

Also, along with his two assists, his 17 goals in 23 matches in the FA Cup are the most scored by any player since he made his debut in 2016.

Leicester City will turn their attention to the Premier League, where they will face Aston Villa next in a bid to win their first league game since defeating West Ham just before the World Cup break.
