F1: Zhou Guanyu joins Ferrari as reserve driver for 2025 season

Zhou Guanyu has joined Ferrari as one of its reserve drivers for the 2025 Formula 1 season, Afrosport reports.

Zhou was axed by Sauber from the Swiss team at the end of last year which left him without a seat on the grid.

The Chinese driver has expressed his desire to remain part of F1 and will now share reserve duties with former Alfa Romeo driver, Antonio Giovinazzi.

Ferrari in a statement said: “Zhou Guanyu is taken on as a reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari HP alongside Antonio Giovinazzi, who continues in this role.

“For the Chinese driver, it is something of a homecoming, as he spent four years with the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy from 2015 to 2018.”

If either new driver Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc are unable to participate on any grand prix weekend, Zhou or Giovinazzi will have the opportunity to take their place and drive their cars.

Olivier Bearman stood in for Carlos Sainz in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix last season and finished in seventh place.
