Carlos Sainz set the fastest time on the second day of the three-day Formula 1 pre-season test in Bahrain, beating Lewis Hamilton’s time from the morning session, Afrosport reports.
Sainz went fastest with a time of one minute, 29.366s seconds in the afternoon before lowering the benchmark by 0.18 seconds.
It put the Spaniard and former Ferrari driver 0.03 seconds clear of Hamilton’s earlier benchmark for the Scuderia.
Hamilton’s teammate Charles Leclerc, who took over in the afternoon, finished third while George Russell’s effort from the morning session put him fourth, 0.006 seconds clear of Mercedes rookie team-mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
Lance Stroll was sixth fastest over Liam Lawson while Alpine duo Jack Doohan and Pierre Gasly were eighth and ninth and Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar completed the top 10.
McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were only 13th and 14th behind Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Yuki Tsunoda.

Pre-season testing will conclude on Friday before attention turns to the Australian Grand Prix on March 16.
