F1: Piastri gets grandstand named after him for next year’s Australian Grand Prix

Ex-F1 driver Jolyon Palmer calls Piastri ‘calmest head’ on the grid

Oscar Piastri will have a grandstand named after him at next year’s Formula 1 season-opening Australian Grand Prix, Afrosport reports.

The 24-year-old Australian currently leads the 2025 drivers’ championship, nine points clear of his McLaren teammate Lando Norris after 14 races.

Piastri is however yet to stand on the podium at Albert Park but could enter next year’s race as the world champion.

“It feels very surreal and I never thought this would happen, but the support is incredible and I can’t wait to see it all come together next March,” he said in a video posted on his X account.

The stand will be on the main straight of the race track just opposite the pit lane, while the existing Fangio grandstand will be expanded and split into two sections.

Piastri will join fellow Australians and former world champions Jack Brabham and Alan Jones in having a grandstand named after them. Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo also have stands named after them.
