Patience is growing thin for Sergio Perez after a dismal home race at the Mexico City Grand Prix, with Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner now warning that “difficult decisions have to be made”, Afrosport reports.
Perez was knocked out in the first phase of qualifying after struggling with the handling of his RB20 with a braking issue. He was however hit with a five-second penalty for a false race start before sustaining damage after an incident with Racing Bulls (RB) driver Liam Lawson.
The 34-year-old ultimately finished in 17th with Red Bull now third behind McLaren and Ferrari in the constructors’ championship, and Horner has admitted that a tough choice might be made with four rounds of racing left.
“Scrutiny is always going to be there. There comes a point in time that difficult decisions have to be made. We’re now third in the constructors’ championship,” he said.
“Our determination is to try and get back into a winning position, but it’s going to be a tall order over these next four races.
“Formula 1 is a results based business and when anyone is underperforming of course there is always going to become scrutiny on that
“As a team we need to have both cars scoring points. That is the nature of Formula 1.”
Gracias México, no fue nuestro fin de semana. Pero nunca nos vamos a dar por vencidos y el próximo año nos vemos para volver a intentarlo.
¡Me los llevo a todos en mi coche!🇲🇽❤️Thank you, Mexico. This wasn’t the weekend for us. I’ll never give up and I’ll try again next year.… pic.twitter.com/XrD6KAqv2X

He added: “From the team’s perspective we are working with him as hard as we can to try and support him,” he added. “We’ve done everything that we can and we’ll continue to do so in Brazil next weekend, but there comes a point in time that you can only do so much.”
Sergio Perez remains eighth in the drivers’ championship and has now gone 15 racing since he last finished on the podium.
