Formula 1 championship contender Lando Norris says he is not surprised by Red Bull Racing’s recent form after Max Verstappen claimed another dominant victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The reigning world champion led from pole position to the very end for his second consecutive win after winning the Italian Grand Prix last time out, and his fourth win of the season.

Meanwhile, McLaren failed to clinch the constructors’ championship after drivers’ championship leader Oscar Piastri crashed out on the opening lap, ending his points-scoring streak of 34 races and 44 consecutive race finishes, while Norris could only finish seventh.

The British driver reflecting on Red Bull’s strong form said: “People have caught. Red Bull brought upgrades last weekend so they are clearly doing well.

“Their race pace is strong. They have won plenty of races this year. It’s not a surprise. They’ve improved in some areas. They’ve been a winning team for the last however many years. We knew that they could be a threat. We know that some of these tracks aren’t going to be our best but it wasn’t our cleanest weekend.

“Things we want to do better and if we look back to yesterday. If I could change some things, I certainly would. We’re doing the best that we can every weekend. It’s hard to be perfect in the world of Formula 1.”

Verstappen completed a grand slam in Baku by winning from pole position, leading every lap and taking the fasted lap.

He achieved that feat for the sixth time in his F1 career, equalling Lewis Hamilton as the driver with most grand slams on the current grid and the second highest F1 history behind Jim Clark (8).
