F1: Mercedes’ Antonelli finishes fastest on final day of first Bahrain pre-season test

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli set the fastest time in the first Formula 1 pre-season test in Bahrain, Afrosport reports.

The Italian set a time of one minute, 33.669 seconds on day three of the first test on Friday, beating the time of one minute, 33.918 seconds set by his teammate George Russell during the morning session of the same day.

Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton completed the top three on day three, finishing 0.540 seconds behind Antonelli’s benchmark. The seven-time world champion brought out a red flag with just over 10 minutes left in the session when he stopped his car on the track but managed to complete over 130 laps.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who had set the previous fastest time in testing, was fourth on Friday with over 150 laps completed ahead of Red Bull Racing rival Max Verstappen.

Earlier on day two of testing, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was fastest ahead of reigning world champion Lando Norris and Haas’ Oliver Bearman while Norris was fastest on the opening day ahead of Verstappen and Leclerc.

McLaren and Williams were the teams to put in most laps with 422 each followed by Ferrari (420), Haas (390), Audi (353) and Red Bull (343).

Aston Martin despite high expectations from their Adrian Newey-designed car, had the least millage with just 206 laps completed behind Mercedes (282 laps).
