F1: Hamilton handed 105th race win after Russell’s Belgian GP disqualification

Lewis Hamilton claimed his 105th Formula 1 victory after his Mercedes teammate George Russell was disqualified from Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix.

The former Williams driver was the initial winner with Hamilton in second, giving Mercedes their first 1-2 since the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Russell was however disqualified from the race at Spa-Francorchamps when motorsport governing body, FIA, found his car to be underweight during the post-race inspections.

This handed Hamilton his second win of the season after claiming victory at the British Grand Prix.

The 39-year-old remains the outright leader for most race wins in F1 history, 14 better than Michael Schumacher’s tally of 91 wins.

Russell’s disqualification means Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc are promoted to second and third respectively while reigning world champion Max Verstappen was fourth ahead of Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz Jnr. and Sergio Perez.

Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo completed the top 10.
