Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton is hopeful Mercedes’ upcoming upgrades will bring the needed performance that puts the car closer to the frontrunners in the Formula One.
The Brackley-based team have arguably been the third-best car behind Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin this season, a similar scene in 2022 when they were behind Red Bull and Ferrari.
Mercedes have scored just one podium in three races so far this year, courtesy of Hamilton’s second-place finish at the last race in Australia.
Hamilton is hopeful the upgrades, which could be introduced ahead of the Emilia Romagna next month, will bring instant positive gains as has been demonstrated in the past.
“There’s a part of me that’s just hopeful that we find the trick and we’re straight onto the right track that’s not far away from the others,” Hamilton said.
“We’ve shown in the past that we can develop quickly, and I hope that that’s the case as the potential of the car opens up.
“The guys can go full steam ahead in that direction. I’m grateful that they are open to making a shift and not being stuck with what we have.”
