Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has called for prayers after his bulldog, known as Roscoe, went into a coma after suffering another bout of pneumonia, Afrosport reports.
Roscoe has been seen with Hamilton at many races since his days with Mercedes and has remained with him after his switch to Scuderia Ferrari this year.
The bulldog is 12 years old, which is getting closer to the age most dogs live their lives and has been in declining health.
Hamilton, in an Instagram post, said Roscoe’s heartbeat stopped during a sedation procedure is now in a coma. The 40-year-old does not know if his dog will wake up, but is hoping for a positive sign by Saturday.
“Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts. I want to keep you all updated. Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe,” he said.
“He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him, and during the process, his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back, and now he’s in a coma.
“We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support.”
Hamilton was due to participate in a Pirelli tyre test in Mugello on Friday, but has now skipped it to be with Roscoe and has been replaced by reserve driver Zhou Guanyu.
