F1: Ex-Ferrari boss Todt provides rare update on Schumacher health

Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt has provided a rare update on his visits to Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher, Afrosport reports.

The German has not been seen in public since suffering severe head injuries in a skiing accident in December 2013.

The 56-year-old’s family have kept his medical condition private and provided very little details as he continues to rehabilitate at his home in Switzerland.

Only a few select people have been allowed to visit Schumacher including Todt under whom the German won five consecutive world championships with Ferrari.

“The family has decided not to answer the question [regarding Schumacher’s condition], a choice that I respect,” Todt told La Repubblica.

“I see him regularly and with affection, him and his family. Our bond goes beyond the past work.

“It is part of my life, which today is very far from Formula 1.”

Schumacher is regarded as the greatest driver in F1 history, winning a record seven world championships along with new Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton.
