Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali paid a visit to Thailand on Tuesday to discuss plans for a new grand prix on the streets of the country’s capital Bangkok, Afrosport reports.
Domenicali travelled to Thailand to meet the country’s prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra about the Asian country’s ambitions to stage an F1 race.
There has been growing interest from Thailand to host an F1 race, with reports about a maiden race in Bangkok intensifying in the last few months.
The Thai capital recently hosted MotoGP’s inaugural season launch in February while a MotoGP race has been held since 2018 at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, with a deal in place until next year.
Speaking on his visit to Thailand, Domenicali said: “I was delighted to meet with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister of Thailand, and her team today to discuss their impressive plans to host a race in Bangkok.

F1’s popularity has been growing under current owner Liberty Media, with the calendar currently at a record 24 races. However, the Dutch Grand Prix’s departure from 2026 and the Belgian Grand Prix becoming a rotational race, could open up room for more races.
