Ex-Man Utd defender Tuanzebe sues club for alleged clinical negligence

Axel Tuanzebe has taken legal action against his former club, Manchester United, launching a clinical negligence lawsuit against the 20-time English champions, Afrosport reports.

The case, which alleges that United provided negligent medical advice to the player, was filed at the High Court last week.

According to reports, it centres around a period beginning in July 2022 and pertains to an undisclosed injury. It is considered a high-value claim, with the defender seeking over £1 million in compensation for the damages incurred.

Tuanzebe joined United at the tender age of eight and honed his talent through its youth system before making 37 senior appearances for the club. However, his journey with the Red Devils was marked by persistent injuries, notably a hip issue sustained ahead of a clash with Liverpool in 2019.

Though he returned to the pitch briefly, his progress was curtailed after sustaining another injury during a League Cup tie against Colchester United in December 2019. Recurrent setbacks followed, including one that restricted him to just five outings during a loan spell at Stoke City in the 2022/23 season.

During his time at Old Trafford, the former England youth international, who captained United across all levels, also had loan spells at Aston Villa and Napoli.

However, following the expiration of his contract, Tuanzebe brought his 17-year association with United to a close and joined Ipswich Town on a free transfer in 2023.

The 27-year-old featured 44 times for the Tractor Boys across two seasons in both the Championship and Premier League, making 22 appearances last term before the club suffered relegation from the top flight.

Tuanzebe signed for Burnley in June—again on a free transfer—after turning down a new offer from Ipswich.

He will now be seeking to establish himself as a key figure in Scott Parker’s setup, especially after the club’s immediate return to the Premier League following a remarkable campaign in the Championship last term.
