Serie A club Parma on Tuesday announced the appointment of Cristian Chivu as manager, with the former Romanian defender replacing Fabio Pecchia, Afrosport reports.
Parma sacked Pecchia on Monday after a fourth consecutive defeat kept the promoted side in the relegation zone. The Italian, who had been in charge of the team since 2022, led them to Serie A promotion at the end of last season.
Chivu, who gets his first senior managerial role, was previously a youth team coach at Inter Milan, where he spent seven years as a professional player from 2007 to 2014.
“Chivu, alongside his staff made up of Antonio Gagliardi (assistant manager), Angelo Palombo (technical assistant) and Nicola Pavarini (goalkeeper coach), will begin training with the team as of this afternoon at the Mutti Training Center,” Parma said in a statement.
