The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the appointment of Chris Hughton as head coach of the country’s senior national team.
The 64-year-old Englishman – who was previously manager at Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion – had occupied the role of technical adviser for the Black Stars since February 2022.
Hughton replaces Otto Addo, who resigned after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Ghana finished bottom of Group H behind Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay, claiming just one which was a narrow 3-2 win against the Koreans.
Ghana represents Hughton’s first job back on the touchline since September 2021 when he was relieved of his duties at Nottingham Forest who were in the Championship at that time but now in the Premier League. He was had stints at Newcastle United, Birmingham City and Norwich City.
The GFA in a statement said: “The appointment is in line with the vision of the GFA to continue with the project of building a formidable squad that started with Otto Addo in the lead up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.”
