Everton condemn death threats targeted at James Tarkowski

Postecoglou unfazed by boos from Tottenham fans after defeat to Chelsea

Everton have condemned death threats that have been targeted at centre-back James Tarkowski and his family after his dangerous tackle in Wednesday’s 1-0 Merseyside derby defeat at Anfield, Afrosport reports.

The 32-year-old Englishman lunged into Alexis Mac Allister and was only given a yellow card rather a red card which would have sent him off, an admission made by Premier League refereeing body PGMOL.

Tarkowski has since been the subject of hateful comments online which have threatened his family, with his wife Samantha, calling the abuse “beyond disgusting”.

“Everton Football Club is aware of threats made towards James Tarkowski and his family on social media. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in football or society,” read a Toffees statement.

“The club is liaising with James and his wife Samantha, and stands ready to engage with the social media companies and assist the police with any potential investigation.

“Everton strongly condemns any form of online or offline intimidation, threats or abuse directed at players, staff or their families.”

Tarkowski spoke to Mac Allister after the game and revealed he had offered his apology which the Argentine midfielder accepted.

Everton will next be in action against Arsenal at Goodison on Saturday afternoon.
