Everton boss Moyes disappointed with draw against Manchester United

Everton manager David Moyes has expressed his disappointment with the Toffees’ 2-2 Premier League draw with Manchester United at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon, Afrosport reports.

The Merseysiders took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Guinea-Bissau forward Beto and Mali midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

United were however able to find their way back through a free kick from captain Bruno Fernandes and a first goal from Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Everton had a penalty in added time after Matthijs De Ligt pulled down Ashley Young but referee Andy Madley rescinded his earlier decision to award the spot kick after consulting with the VAR pitchside monitor.

Moyes was left incensed by the decision not to award the penalty, believing his side deserved more from the game.

“I don’t think the referee should have been called to VAR, I really don’t,” the Scot told the club website.

“Why would VAR intervene in that? I’ve got no idea. Unless they really thought it was bad, no, he definitely pulls the jersey and Ash goes down. If it was the other way around, I wouldn’t have been surprised if it was given. So, then that’s me being pretty neutral in that decision. But we didn’t get it, and that was it.

“We had a 2-2 draw against Liverpool and it felt like a win. Today’s a 2-2 draw and feels a little bit like a defeat. But it tells us how far we’re coming that we’re getting a bit disappointed that we can’t beat Manchester United.

“…We pressed and worked really hard today to get some good moments in the game. We deservedly were 2-0 up and, as I said, I’m actually a bit disappointed that we didn’t get 3-0 up at one point.

Moyes was however pleased with his team’s performance as they have now won four of their last six games (D2), and has seen players like Beto come to life after struggling at the start of the season under previous manager Sean Dyche.

“I think they’ve done brilliantly and played really well today,” he added.

“Lots of things they’ve done are good. Beto has a chance at the end from a great cross from Jack who put in a couple of really good balls.

“We’re beginning to see players who maybe at times people were saying were not playing well or not good enough We’re beginning to see them finding a little bit of form, a bit of confidence And then, by the way, a point isn’t a bad result.”

Everton remain in 14th place, one point above 15th-placed United and 14 points clear of the relegation zone.
